Why I Left Internal Medicine to Open Aesthetics by Yari

If you had told me ten years ago that I’d be running my own medical spa in Boca Raton, I would have thought you were lying.

Even two years ago, the idea of leaving internal medicine to open my own practice felt impossible. I was determined to stay in traditional medicine. That was the plan. That was what I worked for.

But life had different plans. Better plans.

What Changed

After three years in internal medicine, I realized something was missing. Not the medicine itself—I loved taking care of patients. But the system felt broken.

The reality of corporate medicine:

15-minute appointment slots
Back-to-back patients with no time to really listen
Rigid schedules that meant missing my kids’ bedtimes
Feeling like I was treating symptoms, not people

I wanted more time with my patients. More flexibility with my family. More control over how I practiced medicine.

Aesthetics offered all of that.

Why Aesthetics Felt Different

Some people think aesthetics is superficial. That it’s not “real” medicine.

They’re wrong.

Here’s what I see every day:

A woman in her 50s who finally feels confident enough to go back to dating
A mom who looks in the mirror and sees herself again, not just exhaustion
Someone who walks in feeling invisible and leaves feeling seen
Help people not only fit better in their clothes but feel better physically and mentally

Aesthetics isn’t about vanity. It’s about people feeling good inside and out. Feeling good when they look in the mirror. It’s about confidence. Self-worth. Taking time for yourself in a world that constantly demands you put yourself last.

And that matters.

What I Gained by Starting My Own Practice

Time with my patients
Consultations aren’t rushed. I can sit with you, listen to your concerns, and create a plan that actually fits your life and goals. No assembly line medicine.

Time with my family
I pick my kids up from school. I do bedtime every night. I don’t miss moments anymore because of someone else’s schedule.

Control over how I practice
I choose which products I use. I decide how much time each patient needs. I build relationships, not patient quotas.

The ability to practice medicine my way
Education over sales. Transparency over pressure. Partnership over transactions.

What Hasn’t Changed

I’m still taking care of patients. Just differently.

The Life I Didn’t Plan For

Opening Aesthetics by Yari was terrifying. Leaving the security of corporate medicine felt reckless. Starting a business as a mom felt impossible.

But it was also the best decision I’ve ever made professionally.

I love what I do. I’m grateful for every consultation, every patient who trusts me with their care, every moment I get to be present for my family.

Life led me here, and I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
